My Pal Insomnia

What is it that makes me not wanna sleep?

I need sleep. It's the healthy choice.

Sometimes I can't sleep. Everyone has those nights. Sometimes I don't want to sleep. Is that normal?

It's not like I have any reason not to sleep. I have no fear of the day ahead of me. Rarely is there something keeping me awake, ideas racing through my mind and whatnot. I have no annoying life drama, no relationships in turmoil, no enemies forcing me to keep aware at all hours of the day. On the other hand, maybe that's the problem.

I enjoy sleep, usually. Rest from a long day on my feet, dealing with ignorant people and lazy coworkers. Plus there's always dreamland to look forward to. Ah, the crazy adventures your subconscience plays with you. Though I've yet to have that zombie holocaust fight-for-your-life-or-join-'em event. One day. One day...

Anyway. Is there something keeping me from wanting to sleep? I'm sure there is, but I can't figure out what that might be. Right now as I write this I've forgone sleep for tonight. I know it'll be a struggle to keep myself awake for parts of the day, but I almost look forward to it.

Maybe it is the dreams I'm afraid of. Because that's just what they are. Dreams. Your secret (or not so secret) wishes, fears, whatever, given life in your mind. Sometimes they can show you the vision of you darkest thoughts made real. Sometimes you can live your own past life, whether you're fond or afraid of it. At best, you experience exactly what you want in life. At least until you wake up, and you return to the real world. So unfortunate.

I'm sure, in some way, this has something to do with my occasional bouts of insomnia. But what to do, what to do...

I could sleep. Right now. The only thing stopping me is, well, me.

No. No sleep for me tonight. I've made my decision.

I think I'll try to live a dream or two. I just hope they're the good ones.

Montreal Cannibal Spice

Okay, so my blog has been dead as long as it has existed. I intend to change that. Starting.... now.

I lied. Not now. Maybe tomorrow.

The overcrowding of ideas in my fragile little noggin has delirium nipping at my heels. What better way to deter the little bugger than bringing these subconscious hallucinations to a place where they can be expressed.

It's late and I'm on little sleep. So, you're right, I'm not making any sense. Hopefully this wont be a reoccurring feature of the zombie autopilot. Then again, I'm not sure I'll be getting much sleep tonight either.

randomness:

The title "Zombie Autopilot" comes from a song on Unearth's album "The Oncoming Storm". My memory is so spotty these days I believed it to be by Poison The Well, but that's "Zombies Are Good for Your Health" from their album "You Come Before You". Both albums (and artists) are phenomenal. And contain songs with zombies in the title. Bonus.

Right now I'm listening to the new album from Darkest Hour, "Deliver Us". Nothing special, but I'm enjoying it so far. If you're aware of the two other bands I mentioned, it may be worth a look. Or you'll think it's utter crap. Who knows. My judgment is about as reliable as my memory.

Oh, and if you have a funny book store near you, look for "Doktor Sleepless" #1 from Warren Ellis and Avatar. I have no idea what's going on in this new series. I love it.

So. I guess I lied again. How 'bout that? A new blog entry. Damn.

At least no one will read this incoherent dribble. Yet.

Back to Zero

The dawn of a new year. Exciting, isn't it?

Before I get into anything, I have a few goodies I'd like to share.

Pencils | Inks | Colour

This is an absolutely amazing splash page by Invincible artist Ryan Ottley. These are the original pencils, so you can see the amount of detail in everything that's happening. The final piece also makes a wicked background for your desktop. This scene comes from issue 29, where Mark and his father reunite to fight Viltrumites on an alien planet to-- You know what, it doesn't matter what's going on. It's just awesome. Besides, if you don't read Invincible, you probably wouldn't understand. (So, what are you waiting for? Volume 1's only $15. Go pick it up!)

Spider-Man vs. the Hulk. Another piece by Ryan Ottley. Aside from his stint on the Batman/Superman Annual I hadn't seen much of his work outside Invinsible until recently. Bloody fantastic stuff.

Okay. I have a confession to make. Last night I stumbled upon Ryan's deviantART profile. I'd seen a lot of his images there before, but never picked up it was him. The Invinsible stuff woulda sealed it, if I'd noticed. Then again I did see that zombie Invinsible a long time ago... Anyway, enjoy Wolvie killing Batman. I thought it was funny.

All hail Ryan Ottley, pencil god.

Anyway. New Years Eve was a bash. Good times at the Red Rooster! Who knew Domino's Pizza would be open all night? Mmm, nothing like being loaded and getting fresh pizza at 4 in the a.m. Speaking of loaded, beer and champagne is an odd combination...

So far since the new year hasn't offered too much excitement. Then again, it's only day four. Work sucks, what else is new, right? I think it's time to find a new place for my (lack of) skills.

Speak of the devil. My time is cut. And I totally forgot my point during all that.
